Tackling unfair practices in the leasehold market
DCLG has published the government’s response to the consultation on ‘Protecting consumers in the letting and managing agent market’.
The response, entitled ‘Tackling unfair practices in the leasehold market’, can be viewed by clicking here.
The consultation looked at a range of measures to tackle unfair and unreasonable abuses of leasehold, in particular the sale of new leasehold houses and onerous ground rents.
The consultation received over 6,000 replies, demonstrating the strength of interest in the issue.
ARMA responded to the call for evidence and is encouraged to see in this paper the wide reaching and leading role the Government is taking in the reform of leasehold. ARMA has been campaigning for over a decade for the regulation of the residential block management sector. We were therefore delighted when Communities Secretary Sajid Javid announced at the ARMA Conference in October that the Government would issue a call for evidence on regulation. We will support the Government in its efforts to bring about this much-needed change.
